DynKit Tutorial
By Tom Gibson - Visit
his Classic Airliner page!
To create new dynamic scenery, you need to first record a flight using
the FSASM flight recorder. You can get this from IUP via Mike Marando's
page or the FSASM web page. It's best to use the same plane that you will
use in the final dynamic scenery, but there are ways around that. Then,
you use a program like FS Action or DOD (both reasonably easy to use) to
create a dynamic scenery file from the recorded flight.
Finally, you use DynKit to patch any converted FS98 plane into the dynamic
scenery you just created. To do this:
- Start DynHangar and click the Import Plane button. Browse to the FS98
MDL file of your choice (in the plane's MODEL folder), and the plane will
be added to your hangar. Select any appearance options you desire. Be sure
to set the RPM to 100% for prop planes that you want to have the props
spinning.
- Repeat as desired to build up your hangar (include only planes you
will use for a given scenery layer's dynamic file(s)).
- Save this file in your SCENERY folder - either the main one (if you
don't use scenery layers) or in the desired scenery layer. To keep things
simple, all planes used in a given scenery layer should be in one hangar
file. I saved mine as SEC10.BGL, but HANGAR.BGL would also be good. Your
dynamic scenery file should be stored in this same folder. You can have
several dynamic scenery files in this folder (covering different airports;
dynamic files cannot overlap), all referring to your new SEC10.BGL file.
- Now start DynPatch, and Press the Open File button. Browse to the dynamic
scenery file that you want to patch. It will list the default dynamic plane(s)
that is/are currently used by that file.
- Make sure that the Adjust Gear Height button is NOT pressed in.
- Now with both DynHangar and DynPatch windows visible, drag the plane
that you recorded the flight with from DynHangar to the desired spot in
the listing in DynPatch. Press the Save File button.
- If you want to patch in a different plane, repeat step #6, but this
time make sure that the Adjust Gear Height button is pressed in. Press
the Save File button. Done!
